Palm Sunday – The Unexpected Jesus

 

Zechariah prophesied that the Messiah would come in a specific way. The problem was that they had ignored all the things God had told them about Himself and His mission.

On Palm Sunday, Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a male donkey that was young enough that it had never been ridden before. This is something that kings did, but kings would only ride donkeys in times of peace.

Jesus is not only saying that He is the prophesied Messiah, but He is also subverting the expectation that He will come to make war on Rome, or use the militaristic aggression of the zealots to usher in the kingdom.

Jesus did not come to put one nation above another. He came to clean up His house, and usher in the Kingdom of Heaven into all the world.
